The following settings are available for administering software:
Both software assignment and licensing have a common threshold for showing their status. Licensing status indicators are used to show under and over licensing issues, as well as nearly under licensed software. Software assignment indicators show under and over assignment as well as almost under assigned issues. The default values given to the indicators support these states. Change the default values to suit your organization’s interpretation of over and under licensing. The status indicators for licensing appear on forms, views and in reports. The status indicators for assignments, as described here, are only used on the Software Title Assignment report. For more details on these indicators see Status indicators.
To change the thresholds for software licensing and assignment status indicators:
PREREQUISITE: You need to have Administrator privileges to change the thresholds.
Go to the Administration workspace > Settings view.
Click Provance Software Administration settings to change the thresholds for the status indicators. The Software Administration Settings form opens.
In the Software Status Thresholds section, enter a threshold value for each of the color indicators. For more details, see Examples for licensing threshold and Status indicators.
NOTES:
The licensing status is green, or acceptable, for any values outside the three states mentioned on the form.
Negative values are ignored and treated as zero.
Click OK to complete the threshold changes.
The threshold settings for reports, views and forms will reflect the new values. To immediately update a software title with its new licensing status, click Recalculate Software Licensing Values.
Let’s say your organization has 100 licenses for Adobe Acrobat 4.0 (a software item). As an asset manager you need to know when Acrobat becomes under licensed, which for you occurs when 100 or more copies of Acrobat have been installed. You also need to know when Acrobat is almost under licensed so you can prepare for it by purchasing more or harvesting existing licenses. To you, ‘almost under licensed’ occurs when there are 75 or more copies of Acrobat 4.0 installed. Lastly, you need to know when Acrobat 4.0 is over licensed, which for you occurs when 5 or less copies of Acrobat are installed. All other conditions — above 5% and below 75% of licenses — would be considered acceptable.
In this example, the setting for under licensed would be as follows:

Which is in effect saying that Acrobat should be given a red status when it is under licensed or, to put it precisely, when there are 100 or more installed copies of Acrobat 4.0 on your network.
The yellow indicator has two possible states: over licensed and approaching under licensed. The setting for the color yellow as ‘nearly under licensed’, would be as follows:

Installed software items > = 75% of licenses or assignments
Which is in effect saying that Acrobat should be given a yellow status when it is nearly under licensed or, to put it precisely, when there are 75 or more installed copies of Acrobat 4.0 on your network. The yellow status stays into effect until it reaches the red status setting.
The second setting for the color yellow, as over licensed, would be as follows:

is a surplus of licenses or assignments
Installed software items < = 5% of licenses or assignments
Which is in effect saying that software titles should be given a yellow status when they are over licensed. In other words, there are 5 or less copies of Acrobat 4.0 installed.
Software titles are removed from the Installed count when they are installed on a hardware asset whose life cycle status indicates that it is not being used; for example, software installed on a Disposed asset should not be included. Because these software titles are no longer considered installed, the licensing status of the software title changes for the positive. You may also decide that additional life cycle states should also be excluded. Use the settings on this page to exclude or include life cycle states in the Installed count.
